Celebrating Inauguration Day with Preschoolers

January 20, 2009

I put a lot of thought into how to celebrate tomorrow’s inauguration with my kids. We debated for months about whether going into DC to experience the excitement of the crowd would be monumental or miserable, and finally the thought of the potty to people ratio and the possibility of changing pull-ups in the cold made the decision to stay home seem most reasonable. Instead, we’ve invited some friends over to commemorate the event.

Below are a couple games we’ll be playing tomorrow with at our Inauguration Day play date.

Pin the Presidential Seal on Obama

Supplies:

Crowded Metro Station

Supplies:

  • one Hula hoop
  • eager kids

The goal of this game is to see how many kids can stand inside a hula hoop. Next, we’ll see if they can walk across the room with the hula hoop at waist level. I am guessing the game will end when the kids start to disagree about alternate uses for the hula hoop…
