LoudounChild.info
I’ll say it again… there are a lot of websites geared towards Loudoun County parents cropping up! My favorite part of LoudunChild.info are the event listings and the childcare listings - I wish the site had been around when I moved to Loudoun County, and wonder if the creator read my mind in providing a resource to help local parents and local businesses connect (which is part of what we here at Active Family Services hope to do as well).
As with the previously reviewed site (www.themomlink.com) LoudounChild.info seems to be driven by ad revenue, but it catalogs a lot of useful info and has a professional look. Its success may depend on how many of us local parents log on and add our two cents to the forums page, but I am hoping that the rest of you wait until after I win the $50 Starbucks gift card!

The Mom Link
It seems that more and more websites geared towards helping moms connect with one another and with local businesses are cropping up. This particular website seems to be heavy on the ads, and the chat forum doesn’t look to get too much use. However, I like that it is geared towards Loudoun County, and I do think it good to have as many resources as possible when looking for things like local childcare or fun things to do. Plus I am an advocate of supporting local businesses, especially those owned by moms, and I get excited whenever I see anything that mentions the words “babysitting co-op”…

This is the website for Mothering Magazine which labels itself as “the birthplace of natural family lifestyle.” Despite the arrogance of that assertion I have found their forums to be kind of online home where I can turn for information on parenting in a style that is gentle on my children and the earth. If you are interested in natural family living or attachment parenting, and looking for a place where you can be encouraged, challenged and inspired this is worth checking out.
