New Loudoun Family Calendar

by jessica on April 27, 2008

Active Family Services, LLC is proud to announce our new Loudoun Family Calendar. This is the resource I dreamed of when I new to the area, new to staying at home with my children, and new to mothering two children. I hope it will help other parents and childcare providers to easily find places & events to share with their favorite little ones on days when they feel the need to get out of the house and connect with others.

We make every effort to ensure that the information on our calendar is up to date and easy to use; however, we recommend that you double-check event details with the location. If you would like to suggest an addition to the calendar or notice an error, please contact us. As with our other informational services this calendar is made possible by our local sponsors. Thank you for your support!

Moms Morning Off at The Playhouse

If you are looking for a small, more informal setting than preschool for your 2-5 year old (younger participants considered on a case by case basis) might I recommend my own program? One of Active Family Services, LLC’s many offerings is a small (5-6 kids max) Moms Morning Off in our home daycare located just outside historic downtown Leesburg.

I do not follow a set curriculum, but work hard to create a sense of community for the kids and offer some kind of simple activity or adventure each day. Activities so far have included painting, cooking, playing in the snow, jumping in puddles, treasure hunts, rice and bean texture play, crafts, walking field trips to the library, Raflo park, W&OD trail or even just going for a walk to look for squirrels or acorns in the neighborhood. It is a mixed age group so each kid participates at their own level. We practice skills like taking turns, helping each other, being gentle and using our imaginations. We have lots of open ended toys for free play and a neighborhood playground just behind our house.

In addition to Moms Morning Off I also offer occasional drop in care on a limited basis.

UPDATE 6/7/2008: Our Moms Morning Off has been replaced by a two day a week Playschool (currently full). We still offer drop in ($15/hr) and off site care ($20/ hr) on a limited basis.
